For 15 years, Southwest Idaho has hosted one of the best cycling relays in the west.
The 180 mile course from Boise to Sun Valley, Idaho is one of the most scenic and challenging courses around and the 100 mile course from Grandjean to Sun Valley is full of its own challenges and altitude gain through some of the most amazing mountain ranges including the magnificent Sawtooths.
The Sawtooth has both 180 and 100 mile routes. The 180 mile route can be ridden solo or as a team of 6, 4, or 2 riders. The 100 miler can either be ridden as a solo or 2 person team.
How does the relay work? The 180 mile route starts in Boise at Barclay Bay just south of the Lucky Peak Dam. There are 9 fixed transition points and 10 segments along the way. Transitions can only take place at these spots. There is a limit of 3 teammates allowed on the road at a time except in certain locations. For more details please read all the rules about teams and support vehicles.
The 100 mile route starts in Grandjean, ID. There are 4 transition points and 5 segments.
For the first time, solos (Uncut) and 2-person teams can tackle the full Sawtooth course. However, before signing up, consider whether you can make the time cuts as outlined in the rules below.
Have a look at this video from our friend Taylor to get a first-person view :)

The route from Boise to Sun Valley is one of the most scenic in the country, and for the first time, you can take in every mile of it from your bike saddle. Given the roads we travel on, we need to keep everyone safe and the local residents happy. It is our goal to continue the event long into the future, and to do that, we need your help in following the rules.
The Sawtooth will provide four aid stations along the way, allowing riders without any additional support to complete the route.
In order to minimize time at aid stations and to ensure that everyone gets exactly what they want, Uncut Riders will be provided with two baskets to put whatever they want into. The first basket will be at Aid Stations 1 and 3, while the second basket will be at Aid Stations 2 and 4. We would recommend: 2 bottles with your favorite drink along with your favorite riding foods. If you leave bottles in the basket after aid stations 1 and 2, we’ll fill them for you with water.
While additional support is not necessary, we realize that people often want their own support. There are a few extra rules for Uncut support:
Sawtooth Full & Sawtooth 100 Team results are broken out by # of riders (2, 4, or 6) and include time bonuses.
Solo results are broken out by Men and Women, no time bonuses.
Each team is awarded time bonuses and handicaps to make the relay races more competitive.
